To My Parents

Dearest Amma & Appa,

I do not quite know how to begin. Let me begin by thanking you for all that you have done for me. I realize that thank you may not be the right word to be used here and that you might object to it as well. But I do not know how else to express my thoughts/feelings for all that you have done for me. I want to tell you that I am aware of everything that you have done and are still doing -including shifting from your permanent residence to a rented place to be near me.

You have always been there for me and supported me all through. Its not as though all these has donned on me now suddenly. I have always know all this. But Jillu' s birth has made me think along different lines altogether. I know I will do all that you have done for me to Jillu. Only when I thought about that I realized that I would also want Jillu to realize all that we do for her when she becomes older. So it is only fair that I tell you how much you are appreciated. I am writing this because I may not be able to convey all this properly face-face.

As I think of the future, I am able to see all the likely pitfalls in every stage of Jillu's life. I like the person I am today with fairly sound values, morals and integrity (agreed that the same values caused you grievance during the alliance hunting days). As I have already told you (refer the lamination hanging in your wall), I am what I am today because of you. I will be more than happy if we are able to do the same job on Jillu - which will be a bigger challenge now given that the times are changing. As I think about you today, I want Jillu to realize the same in all of us one day.

Whatever I say or do, please always remember that I will always cherish you and value you. Since becoming a mom/parent, am able to better understand where you come from. Even on things where we do not see eye to eye, I understand your primary motive behind.

I wanted you to know all these that run through my mind now, because the present is what matters most. None of us know what is in store for us in the future, so I want to make the most of the present now and share all these with you when it matters now.

Love you always

Lavanya

P.S : Copy of handwritten letter to my parents
